Neon Signs

The first time I saw you

The word HOME lit up on your forehead

Like a bright red neon sign

Your eyelashes opened and closed like shutters

Opening to a window with the most beautiful view

And in that moment I knew

That I wanted to keep you

I wanted to take the for sale sign

Off your front yard

Plant flowers in your garden

And fill the hallways with the smell of

Home cooked dinners

And freshly washed sheets

I wanted the words I love you

To echo down your hallways

And rattle in your bones

I wanted to make you

My permanent home
